Rock Peaks
Services
Rock Peaks is an open community database and streaming platform dedicated to music videos, concert films, and television music performances. Users can browse and stream clips, match their local media collections against the database to download rich metadata and artwork, and link a Plex account to play locally stored videos through the Rock Peaks interface. The platform targets music video collectors, archivists, and enthusiasts who manage serious personal libraries using media centre software like Plex or Kodi.
Challenge
Rock Peaks combined two distinct technical challenges: a large, community-maintained media database requiring robust content management and editorial workflows, and a streaming/media integration layer connecting web browsing to local media playback via third-party services. The platform also needed to serve a niche but technically demanding audience who expected both performance and precision in metadata handling.
What We Built
We built Rock Peaks on Drupal 7, selected for its mature taxonomy, content relationship, and API capabilities — all critical for a database-driven media platform at this scale.
Full stack Drupal development — a comprehensive content architecture for music video records including artist profiles, release metadata, performance history, and clip availability data. Community contribution workflows allowed verified users to submit and improve entries.
API development and integration — integrations with Plex and external media services enabling users to link their accounts, match local library files to the Rock Peaks database, and initiate playback of locally stored videos directly from the web interface. Metadata and artwork APIs allowed bulk enrichment of personal collections.
Responsive design — a browsable, catalogue-style layout optimised for discovery, with filtering by artist, era, genre, and availability. Works across desktop and devices without compromising the density of information that serious collectors expect.
QA — testing of community contribution workflows, third-party API integrations, and media matching logic across a wide range of library configurations and Plex account setups.
Result
Rock Peaks launched as the definitive online home for music video collectors — a platform that combined a rich community database with practical tools for enriching and playing back personal libraries. The Drupal architecture gave the community team full control over the content model as the database grew, while the Plex integration turned the web catalogue into an active management tool for collectors’ local libraries.
